Youth Council

The North Wind Thunderbirds were gifted their name by Chris Harper, who supported The Link as a Knowledge Keeper. When making their offering, the strength of the North Winds signified the strength of our young people. As described by the North Wind Thunderbirds Chairperson, “the north is direction, the wind is power, and the thunderbirds are our energy – our young people are powerful.”

The North Wind Thunderbirds Youth Council engages our young leaders to have a meaningful and influential role in shaping the programs, services, and decisions that affect their lives within The Link and their broader communities. The Council provides a structured way for young people to participate in leadership, offer guidance on youth-related initiatives, and raise issues that matter to them. Its purpose is grounded in community building, advocacy, and expanding opportunities for youth to contribute to positive change. Through active participation, members strengthen their leadership, communication, and cultural understanding while helping the organization remain accountable to the needs, experiences, and aspirations of young people.

Our young people meet on a monthly basis to provide direction to The Link’s leadership, organize events, and access information.
