The Brief Treatment Therapist provides advanced mental health services, including consultation, education, therapy, and child advocacy to children, youth, and their families referred by the Mobile Crisis Team, Clinical Follow-up Team, HBCIS, and/or Youth Crisis Support Services.
A Brief Treatment Therapist is responsible for the supervision and orientation of new staff and students and management of multi-systems cases, multi-diagnosis, family therapy, and any cases with psychotic sequela.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: of the Brief Treatment Therapist include, but are not limited to:
Treatment Planning
- Provide on-site and community-based intervention, individual and family therapy implementation, and evaluation through an advanced understanding of psychiatric diagnostic categories and impressions;
- Assign cases to the Brief Treatment Clinician;
- Meet regularly with the YCSS Team for the purpose of collaboration and planning;
- Refer and engage in case review with YCSS Psychiatrist;
- Maintain appropriate documentation of all clinical activities;
- Support the development and implementation of treatment plans by the YCSS Team;
- Engage clients’ families in the treatment process, whenever possible;
- Provide direct clinical services to clients as needed;
- Provide regularly scheduled consultation with the staff team by attending staff meetings;
- Assist the team in problem-solving to address client issues.
Inter-Agency Consultation
- Provide triage and referral;
- Provide consultation to collateral agencies such as Children’s Mental Health, Child and Family Services, schools, and Probation.
Staff Team Professional Development
- Facilitate topic-specific training sessions as needed to assist the staff team in developing skills to implement treatment plans;
- Participate in hiring/screening of staff, when requested by the Program Coordinator;
- Provide feedback on job performance for staff evaluations, as requested.
Case Management
- Collaborate with the YCSS Team by providing input to the clinical aspects of case management that involve therapeutic issues, such as intake, treatment plans, discharge planning, support requests, and contact with collaterals.
Continuity of Care
- Participate as a member of the YCSS management team;
- Work in consultation with other YCSS staff, external agencies, and the YCSS Coordinator to ensure continuity and communication throughout YCSS;
- Extend consultation, whenever possible, by sharing YCSS resources and information with other The Link programs;
- Attend The Link staff meetings and contribute to the overall functioning of The Link by assuming appropriate additional responsibilities as needed;
- Represent the YCSS program both within and outside of The Link;
- Maintain appropriate documentation of all clinical activities;
- Maintain open communication within the agency and fulfill administrative duties as assigned;
- Maintain clinical/professional development through reading, attending workshops, and peer and clinical consultation on a regular basis;
- Facilitate weekly case conferencing and daily case assignment;
- Perform other tasks and duties as directed by the supervisor, within the context of the Position Summary.
